What happened to September? I just can't believe that the first month of school is over! Now that your student and family have adjusted to the new routines of third grade, you may have some time to take a look at our website. If you haven't already done so, check out the following:
Weekly homework also known as the Rehearsal Schedule Our Tony Award page...who's efforts were recognized this week? The "Scenes from the Theatre" page. This is probably the students' favorite. They love seeing themselves online and remembering special moments in our classroom theatre. "Blogging from Broadway". I'm not sure I'm the blogging sort but at the very least, you can keep up to date on all the happenings in our classroom theatre. The "Private Lessons" page. I've included links to some really great pages. Check out the Pearson Learning site. It is a super site for math and reading fluency practice. Also, be sure to check out the IXL site. The students LOVE it. We've already spent 24 hours solving math problems on this site! WOW! I got an email from IXL today. Our students have spent 24 hours solving math problems! That is crazy good. The kids LOVE it. I really hope that the newness doesn't wear off. I am going to assign IXL for homework one night a week as every family indicated that their student has internet access. Mrs. Jordan is going to add it to her website so that the students can use the program when they're finished with technology assignments. I hope that this extra practice will build student confidence and proficiency!
Thank you for sending in the cardboard for the New England play dough map construction. The students really loved the hands on approach to mastering geography. We'll continue to review the 6 New England states, their capitals, and other major geographical features of the region this week in preparation for a quiz at the end of the week. I'd like to extend a very special thank you to Mrs. Carchio who came in to lend a hand during our map making. It is so nice to have another adult in the room to maintain sanity when we're getting crafty! We will be starting our study of the Wampanoags this week as well. We'll continue to explore rocks during our next couple of science classes. Students will use a classroom set of rocks to learn more about sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous rocks. We'll move onto minerals next week. We wrapped up our first math unit last week. The end of unit Investigations tests will be coming home along with your child's score on a computerized end of unit assessment that is aligned to MA state standards. I'll address any weaknesses identified during our RTI and skills center periods. Our new unit focuses on data. The students have done an OUTSTANDING job meeting expectations during our Daily 5/Cafe literacy block. They are demonstrating good habits and have built up their stamina. I can now begin working with individual students and small groups. Once the students begin to set goals, I'll send along a "Parent Pipeline". This super resource will describe your child's reading goal and will outline ways that you can support your student in meeting this goal at home. Never hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have. Thank you for being so supportive of me and our academic undertakings! I can tell it is going to be a great year! I can't believe we're nearly a month into the new school year. The students are doing such a great job of adjusting to the new routines and expectations of third grade. I'm so happy to have such a great cast of characters to work with this year. I love their willingness to take risks and try new things. They come to school ready to learn and they give it their all. What more could I ask for? Whether we're painting state symbols with water colors, Mod Podging the covers of writing journals, posing for head shots, crafting bios, or solving math problems, these kids are showing a great amount of personality. I look forward to all that we'll accomplish together. This week...play dough maps of the 6 New England states. VIPs flocked to Clough on Wednesday, September 19th to grab a sneak preview of this year's production and to learn about the "role they should play in helping their STAR achieve "fame" in third grade! The Third Grade Team rolled out the red carpet for the parents! Once the "meet and greet" was concluded, the "director" (Mrs. Brigham) ushered the attendees into the classroom where they viewed a Broadway inspired PowerPoint presentation followed by a Q & A.
I would like to sincerely thank all of the VIPs who attended Open House. I know that this year's "production" is sure to win a Tony and that all of these parent-celebrities will earn a nomination for "Best Male or Female in a Supporting Role." Let's all break a leg! Mrs. Brigham We're so pleased that your talent has been recognized and you've been invited to be part of the company here at Brigham Theatre. As you know, you've signed on for a 36 week run. We promise that your experience with our theatre company will help you to grow your talent. Who knows, you could even win a Tony!
Please plan to arrive at the theatre for a 9:00 AM curtain call on Tuesday, August 28th. The actors will hit the boards right away. The company will need to prepare for the first of three major productions. I know the cast will wow our school and community audiences. We're thrilled that you are going to be a part of our company's success! |
